# Trends in Dulce: time in range, average and GMI from your Libre

> The Trends tab in Dulce shows your time in range, average glucose and an estimated A1C (GMI) over 7, 14, 30 or 90 days, each compared with the previous period. Below that, a breakdown by day and by morning, afternoon and night shows where the problem actually is. GMI is calculated from your sensor's average, so it won't match a lab A1C exactly.

The number right now tells you what to do right now. Trends tell you what's really going on: whether nights are the problem, whether you spike after meals, or whether this month is better than last. That's what the **Trends** tab in Dulce is for.

## What Trends shows

At the top you pick the period: **7, 14, 30 or 90 days**. Below it are three cards:

- **Time in range**: the percentage of readings inside your target range, split into low, in range and high.
- **Avg glucose** for the period.
- **Est. A1C**, calculated **from GMI** (the glucose management indicator) using your average glucose.

Each card is compared with the previous period, so you can see at a glance whether things are getting better or worse.

> Why doesn't "Est. A1C" match your lab result? Because GMI is calculated from the sensor and A1C is a blood test. We explain it in detail in our [A1C and GMI calculator](https://dulceglucosa.com/en/tools/a1c-calculator-average-glucose).

## Breakdown by day and by time of day

- **Daily breakdown** (or **weekly breakdown** for the longer periods): each bar is a day with its time in range. Tap a day to see its full curve.
- **Time of day**: your time in range split into four parts of the day, night, morning, afternoon and evening. It's the most useful view for finding patterns, like early-morning lows or after-lunch spikes. If nights are your weak spot, read our guide to [nocturnal hypoglycemia](https://dulceglucosa.com/en/blog/nocturnal-hypoglycemia).

## How to get the most out of it

1. **Start with 14 days.** The international consensus considers at least 14 days of data necessary for these numbers to mean something. With 7 days, one odd weekend changes everything.
2. **Look for the worst time of day, not the worst day.** A bad day happens. A time slot that repeats (every night, every afternoon) is a pattern worth taking to your next appointment.
3. **Check time below range** before time above. The general goal is less than 4% of the time below 70 mg/dL. We cover it in [time in range vs. A1C](https://dulceglucosa.com/en/blog/time-in-range-vs-a1c).
4. **Match it with what you log.** If you log carbs and insulin in the [Dulce Logbook](https://dulceglucosa.com/en/blog/diabetes-logbook-carbs-and-insulin), it's much easier to understand why a time slot goes wrong.

## Set the range to your targets

By default Dulce uses a 70 to 180 mg/dL range and a 70% time-in-range goal, the consensus targets for most adults. If your care team gave you different ones, change them in **Settings → Target range** and **Settings → Time-in-range goal**: the colors on Home and Trends follow.

If you also use Apple Health, Dulce can show insulin and carb data from other apps next to your sensor data: see the [Apple Health guide](https://dulceglucosa.com/en/blog/freestyle-libre-and-apple-health).

## FAQ

**What does the Trends tab in Dulce show?**

Your time in range, average glucose and an estimated A1C (GMI) over 7, 14, 30 or 90 days, each compared with the previous period, plus breakdowns by day and by time of day.

**Why doesn't the estimated A1C match my lab result?**

Because it's the GMI, calculated from your sensor's average glucose, while A1C is a blood test. It's normal for them not to match exactly.

**Can I change the target range?**

Yes. In Settings, Target range and Time-in-range goal. The defaults are 70 to 180 mg/dL and 70%, the consensus targets for most adults.
